SOIL AND UNDERGROUND WATER CONTAMINATIONThe EDF project, in the farmer’s field, is uphill from the nearest source of water, Mohawk Bay. Let’s for a moment say the water can be pumped uphill to the fire location (this is not a foregone conclusion), gravity works: the water will flow downhill, into the water table, through the soil, right into Mohawk Bay.
Goodbye fishing?
That’s spring runoff.
This is what it looks like when it enters Mohawk Bay.
Some of these BESS fires have burned for 4 days. That means four days’ worth of water being sprayed on the BESS and running downhill into the bay.
The runoff would contain toxic chemicals. Would you fish here?
This is the source of drinking water.
Who is going to pay for trucked-in drinking water after a fire? Who will pay for groundwater testing?
Don’t Support BESS
It’s not too late to do something about Council’s reckless approval of the 250MW EDF – Battery Energy Storage System sited 1KM south of County Rd 9 in a farm field.
The IESO (Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator) needs to have the community’s support.
- Risk of fire of explosions of lithium-ion batteries.
- Risk of soil and underground water contamination.
- Noise levels.
- Impacts on wildlife.
- Impacts on real estate.
- Indigenous inputs and consultation.
- Future expansions.
